HOW LONG DOES EACH THERAPY SESSION TAKE?

Our sessions will generally be 50 minutes long. In some cases, this session length may be adapted to your needs.

DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?

Yes. I am currently on the Optum panel, and I am a certified Medicare provider. I do have a limit on the number of insurance clients I can take into my practice at any one time.

I am also happy to provide an itemized bill for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

IS PARKING AVAILABLE?

Although you will need to find your own parking on the street, this is generally not difficult.

WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND AND TRAINING?

My undergraduate degree is from Harvard and I have three master's degrees, including the master's in social work, from U.C. Berkeley. After receiving my social work degree, I completed three years of additional training in psychodynamic psychotherapy at The Psychotherapy Institute in Berkeley. Later I returned to The Psychotherapy Institute for an additional year of training in group therapy. In 2021 I received a certificate in advanced training in clinical research from U.C. San Francisco after a year-long program of study. I continue to pursue education in psychoanalysis, and I keep up to date in psychology and in areas important to my clients.

As a social worker I have worked in women's and men's prisons and in inpatient psychiatry, among other settings.

DO YOU OFFER SLIDING SCALE?

Yes, but this is not automatically granted. We will discuss the fee in our first session and will base it on your financial situation, the frequency of sessions, and my current availability of lower fee openings.

HOW LONG WILL I BE IN THERAPY?

Most people feel some relief from their distress within just a few sessions. Resolving the underlying conflicts and traumas can take much longer. The ways that you have learned to cope took years to develop; it makes sense that it can take some time to find new ways of responding to the stressors in your life.
